Turok!

Turok Son Of Stone #91

Things are looking pretty grim for Turok and Andar in this old Gold Key issue I picked up a while ago. I just love the Gold Key painted covers! I haven’t read it yet, but the cover intrigues me…it looks as if Turok and Andar are actually holding on to the feet of the “flyers”, instead of the pterosaurs carrying them in their claws. Very curious, indeed!

When I was collecting comics as an older kid, Valiant comics began becoming hot commodities. Earlier, pre-Unity, Valiant first issues had become rapidly valuable (because of high demand and low print runs), and being a brilliant teenage speculator, I convinced my dad that preordering a whole bunch of Turok number ones would be a wise investment. Me and a few friends and my dad ended up ordering a couple of boxes of them. I had never seen so many copies of the same comic before. The problem was, tens of thousands of other people had the same idea and it ended up becoming the most printed Valiant comic ever.

At any rate, I still enjoy the character of Turok, both in the Valiant universe and the older incarnation in Dell and Gold Key comics. I don’t have a lot of the older ones, but I’ve picked up a handful over the years and have enjoyed the ones I’ve read. When my sister had her first child, I mailed them a copy of the Valiant Turok #1 and told them to hold on to it in order to pay for their child’s college tuition in the future.
